Carol J. Swanson

WINTERVILLE, N.C. – Carol J. Swanson, 76, formerly of Niles, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, surrounded by her family in Winterville. 
She was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Akron, the daughter of Mary Burrell. 
Carol was a 1958 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. 
She married her sweetheart, Chester Swanson, and raised four children in Niles. 
She volunteered at Mount Carmel school, served as a scout leader, and worked at Value City Furniture until she relocated to North Carolina in 2005.
Carol was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Parish in Niles, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Asheboro, N.C., and St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greenville, N.C. 
Her husband, Chester Swanson, whom she married April 11, 1959, died July 18, 2012.
Dedicated to her family and a beloved mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her children; a son, Curtis Swanson and his wife, Beth of Federal Way, Wash.; three daughters, Cheryl Dennis and her husband, James of Columbus, Christine Ellwood and her husband, Robert of Winterville, and Caryn Caratelli and her husband, Brian of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Jason and Emily Dennis and Brennan, Nolan, and Aleena Ellwood.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband and mother.
Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 4:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
